A Japanese Themed Room
One of the common themes people go for when decorating is; Japanese. The style of interior design in Japanese homes is derived from their early influence of prominent religions such as Taoism and Zen Buddhism. That is why most dwellings have that minimalistic panache. A distinct feature is also of transiency where the changing seasons has a great effect as to how the room should be arranged for convenience. A typical Japanese room should have a greater measure of empty space rather than clutter in order to clear the mind and have a Zen feel of enlightenment.
Common items that can be found in a Japanese room would be a tatami (straw matting), kakejiku (hung scroll), ikebana (arranged flowers usually placed with the kakejiku in a small corner or an alcove), zataku (low table), and zabuton (cushions). They also have a tea chest in the living room and a kotatsu or a table covered with a heavy blanket to keep themselves warm in the winter season.
Simple and Clean
In order to create a Japanese themed room from an existing room that needs to be redecorated; it is essential to remove clutter and unnecessary things or furniture that are only used on seldom occasions and don't really hold a significant purpose. Office or school things can be neatly stored in boxes and orderly stacked in a corner where it doesn't take a lot of space in the room. The living room can be furnished with a zataku or low table, together with cushions to sit on. This can already serve as a place to entertain guests and can double as a dining table. If the important pieces of the living room is the television, the low table, seat cushions, a tea chest, or small wooden dividers then it is best to limit it to just that to have more space. All of these can help make a room look Japanese but the essential part is the flooring which is usually made of tatami.
